Origins
The first textile works of spinning, weaving and, later, knotting, date back
to a very early development which coincided with the cultivation of land and
the domestication of animals. Today, the most ancient knotted-carpet in the
world is the often-reproduced “Pazyryk” Carpet which was unearthed
in a burial mound in South Siberia. It dates back to the 4th or 5th Century
and is on display at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
