Wool
Apart from goat or camel hair, sheep’s wool is the material used most
often in Nomadic carpet production. The quality of the wool is dependant upon
the region, the season of shearing, the age of the sheep and the part of the
sheep from which the wool is taken. Differences in wool are especially obvious
in pile rugs. Not only are the sheen and softness of the surface important but
also the wool-to-fat ratio must be considered since a high percentage of fat
will protect against dirt, the fading of colours and the breaking of fibres.
The quality of wool ultimately determines the longevity and durability of the
textiles.
