Age and Origins

A number of criteria are used to determine the origins of a Kilim or carpet. The tribe or region is indicated by peculiarities of design and colour interaction, wool type, the weaving technique or a specific format. Certain works are remarkable for their regional characteristics. Carpets are classified into five categories according to their age:

New: max. 10 years
Recent : 10-30 years
Old: 30-50 years
Semi-Antique: 50-100 years
Antique: over 100 years
